Our very own Ag Solutions Professional from Davidson, Cory Dean competed in an amazing event this past weekend.

He, another member of the Davidson Volunteer Fire Department and two other Davidson locals competed on Team Fire in the 2024 YXE First Responders Fitness Festival which was held at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex in Saskatoon.

“The four members of the DFD Team Fire participated and competed in loving memory of the three boys who perished in a house fire in Davidson this past February. We carried their memory with us the whole way through.” Cory explained

This event is a fundraiser for OSI-CAN, an Operational Stress Injury/Posttraumatic Stress Support Initiative for First Responders, and KidsSport Saskatoon. It’s also a friendly competition that creates inter-agency comradery and assists inbuilding and fostering positive relationships among first responders.

The two-day fundraising event is made up of Teams of 20 Paramedics, Police, and Firefighters. Each Team of 20 has 10 women and 10 men on each team. Team Medic, Team Police, and Team Fire Battle it out to see who is the fittest by accumulating points for the team in each event.

There were three events per day. They started Saturday with an 8km Trail Run with a weightedPail Carry up and down Diefenbaker Hill twice in the middle of the run. They then completed a Tug of War Competition followed by the DEKA Challenge.
Sunday the team competed in the Obstacle Course, then the Team Strength Sand Bag Challenge, and ended with a Team Relay Event.

Team Fire came out on top and won the championship! Cory, and the three other Davidson Fire Department Team members won the Team Spirit Award along with the award for the most funds raised!

Cory tells us “This was an incredible weekend and experience. It was a weekend full of emotion, strength, resilience, camaraderie, and teamwork!”
